Parent child work
Bridge gaps and build stronger family connections. This service helps parents/caregivers and children improve communication, resolve conflicts, and foster healthier relationships.
The key to nurturing healthy and resilient children lies in understanding parent-child interactions and supporting parents in the practice of introducing and shaping new, more adaptive behaviour, strengthening the relationships between parents and their children.
The importance of parent involvement
The missing link in much direct work with children and young people is the involvement of parents/caregivers.
Our Parent-Child Work services are designed to re-establish the link by focusing on parent-child interactions and empowering parents to introduce and support positive behavioural changes. With our guidance, parents can feel confident and supported as they navigate the challenges of implementing new strategies.
At interACT Psychology, we are here to support parents through this adjustment process. Our approach is empathetic, collaborative, and attuned to the needs of both parent and child. We understand that every family is different , and our goal is to foster meaningful and lasting change.
"If we value our children, we must cherish their parents."
– John Bowlby
What our parent-child work looks like
We offer a range of services to meet the diverse needs of families, including:
Parent/caregiver support sessions
These sessions are designed to complement your child or young person’s individual therapy. They provide a space for parents to:
Learn strategies tailored to their child’s needs.
Access practical resources to reinforce therapeutic goals.
Gain insights into their child's emotional and behavioural challenges.
This work is conducted separately from the child’s therapy to maintain clear boundaries. Depending on your family’s needs, these sessions may be with the same therapist or another experienced member of our team.
Joint parent/caregiver and child sessions
In these collaborative sessions, parents and children engage in shared activities to:
Build a deeper understanding of each other’s thoughts, feelings, and behaviours.
Strengthen emotional bonds and improve communication.
Foster trust and connection through structured, meaningful interactions.
By working together in a safe and supportive environment, families can develop tools and strategies to navigate challenges more effectively.
How we help parents succeed
We know that change can be difficult, especially when it comes to altering established patterns of behaviour.
That’s why we focus on providing:
Clear, actionable strategies that are easy to implement at home.
Guidance and encouragement through the ups and downs of the change process.
Ongoing support to help parents stay motivated and confident.
With the right tools and understanding, you can create a positive and supportive environment that helps your child thrive.
